So with the season now finished, how do we think Arsenal got on?
They lifted the FA Cup, finished third in the premier league and finally got over the "big teams away" issue they have been carrying for years by beating city and knocking united out of the cup.
A couple of sweet victories but also some bad losses. Losing against spurs away and drawing at home were 2 fixtures that i cannot get over. Hats off to Harry Kane for his performance against us but i hope he realizes he will go no where with Tottenham and move on. Same for Lloris in that fact.
Arsenal did turn up to more games this season and even at the start of the league when we went 2-0 down at Goodison park they actually managed a fight back where previously they would have rolled over ready to get their bellies tickled. Ramsey who still had sparkling boots from the season before brought a goal back at 82 minutes and then that beautiful frenchman headed home on the 89th minute to save a point. I could see just from that performance we have a team with abit of grit this year.
Injuries once again was a massive factor in the period just before Christmas. Ozil out for a long period with a ligament tear picked up at Chelsea in October, Girouds leg break and Aaron Ramsey with his pingy hamstrings upset the form of the team. A full strength Arsenal squad for a whole season would be a dream and luckily our star man of the season Alexis sanchez stayed fit for most of the season only to be rested for the odd game.
The additions to the team this year were good in my eyes. Callum Chambers being thrown in the deep end as centre back at the start of the season played superb and can only see better things to come with this fella. Ospina becoming number 1 between the sticks and of course the revelation of the season and the best signing for any team in the league by far is Alexis Sanchez. This guy would chase paper down the street on a windy day. Cant fault him.
A player who does deserve alot of praise is Nacho Monreal. this player keeps getting better and better. Im sure he is the last player you think about when Wenger names his starting 11 but he had several good games and is 10x better now than when we first signed him.
Then there was a young Frenchman who was on loan at Charlton but couldn't get a game for love nor money in the Championship. Arsene recalled Coquelin due to injuries in the squad and what a guy he is. Been at Arsenal for about 6 years i think and made the odd appearance in the capital one cup and was very much on the fringes. He had that opportunity and he ran away with it. The defensive midfielder that Flamini couldnt be. He covered that space in front of the defence and played very very well. Now the first name on the team sheet every game. Arteta will have some trouble trying to get back into the squad when this guy is on form.
I think with a few additions this Arsenal team will win the Premiership next season. Current players stepping up finally and with "SUPER JACK" playing the way he his since coming back, i can only see positives so far.
Onwards and upwards and of course retaining the cup was a beautiful thing to see.
