Should we also support our local non league teams?

I have taken my boy Callum to a few Basingstoke Town FC matches and luckily enjoyed seeing them win on every occasion. They have recently managed to bag themselves a deal with Sky Sports Soccer Am and have renamed their ground from the Camrose to the Soccer Am stadium. A boost in finances and this season a boost in form.

I know its far from the glitz and glamour of the Emirates when Arsenal play at home but it is football and its very competitive. The best thing about the lower non leagues teams is you are never sure who will win. The leagues are so open it is very rare that you have a runaway team during a campaign. I think like most football fans when its a neutral game for you, you will always back the underdog including Bradford when they dumped Chelsea out of the FA Cup this year!!

I think it would be nice to see a cup run from a lower league team like Cambridge did this year. Finance wise i think they took in their annual income with that replay at Old trafford against man united, just imagine what that does for a team with limited funds. We all know the man city's and Chelsea's have unlimited amounts of money to spend and with the wages and transfer fee's of these top top players i find it very hard to see how any other team can compete in years to come. Burnley is a team that has managed to find their way into the top flight of football with minimal funds available to them, unfortunately it looks like they will be going back down to the Championship and unless a team can struggle through the first season after promotion they will never stay up.

I will be following Basingstoke Town FC more and more as time goes on as its a small club and finally they look to be going somewhere. Arsenal is of course the team i have always supported but a little support to lower non league local team cannot hurt. Lets be honest with out a following they will never be able to get any where. Plus with the beer being just over £3 and a  burger in the ground being a couple quid its an afternoon out with the boy watching football for about £25 all in. Suits me down to the ground when i am unsure i can afford the £150 day at Arsenal. (Train, beer, food, beer and chicken in Finsbury Park)
