Lukas Podolski. What could have been....

Last week we saw Lukas Podolski secure a move to Turkish giants Gakatasary and as an Arsenal fan i can only wish him well.

Podolski is the kind of player that will no longer excist in football. He is a club man.
Every single fan who supports/follows Arsenal must love this guy. Comments about the wanky team up the road, pouring champagne over wenger, Celebrations and constant social media updates. This guy was always going to be a fan favourite and i loved him for it.

Lukas played his first game in Arsenal shirt against his former side who we all knew he adored. The tattoo on his left arm proved his love and we were lucky enough to have him wanting to join us. This was all happening when a certain dutch player who for a change was not nursing an injury was having his own transfer saga. The Arsenal fans sung his name instead of RVP's and Lukas's hunger in his first game was refreshing to see. Especially compared to our soon to be former captain.

We signed Podolski, Giroud and Santi Cazorla all in the same window and we could not predict what a trio of players they would be. Podolski a seasoned international was the stand out in my eyes but we all know since his arrival Cazorla has been a total different kind of gravy.

I couldn't quite understand why a highly capped international was being played of position though. Always playing on the left and never as a centre forward which looked to be his most comfortable position. Podolski's left foot is an absolute dream and even his free kicks weren't too shabby. I was at the emirates when we beat newly promoted Southampton 5-1.

The stand out goal for me was in the champions league against Montpellier. A nice 1,2 and then that volley.

This I feel was just a taster of what he could actually do. Unfortunately I cannot shake the feeling that Wenger did not utilise him like he should have. We all know Giroud was first pick up front but Podolski's biggest down fall was tracking back. He looked disinterested and I think that is what caused the lack of game time. That and the signing of the excellent Sanchez last season.

Now all we can do is wish him the best at Galatasary even though I am not a fan of their club, league and fans. Hopefully the German world cup winner will have a few good years left in him.
